Adding golden feathers to the crown of St. Mary's, our students became the champions of Calicut University Intercollegiate Sepak Takraw (W) Championship 2018 - 2019. Both in REGU event and in DOUBLES event we bagged the championship and came out with flying colours as overall champions.

Department of Chemistry, St. Mary’s College organized two day programmes in connection with Ozone day celebrations 2018 with the support of KSCSTE, Govt. of Kerala on the focal theme “Keep cool and carry on! The Montreal Protocol” on 18 &19 September 2018. On 18 th September, Dr. Sr. Magie Jose, Principal St. Mary’s College, Thrissur inaugurated the celebration. She used this occasion to evoke students commitment towards the environment and to make the earth a green and clean place for the coming generation. This was followed by an Interuniversity Science Quiz Competition. The quiz competition was managed by Mr. Santhosh P Jose, Dept of Physics, Vimala College Thrissur. Around forty students (20 teams) participated in the competition. The students belonged to five different University viz Health University, Kerala Agricultural University, Kerala Technical University, University of Calicut, KVASU, mannuthy. Teams also participated from various Autonomous colleges like Vimala College (Autonomous), St. Joseph College, Autonomous etc. Ms. Jaina Jacob and Anagha K.H. of II B.Sc Physics, St. Joseph’s College, Irinjalakkuda Won first prize, Mr. Manzoor Panthallokaran and Mr. Gokul T.H. of Sree Krishna College, Guruvayoor won second prize and Ms. Joyce Davis and Ms. Jennifer V.J of 3 rd B.Sc Chemistry, St. Mary’s College Thrissur won 3 rd prizes respectively. An Environmental Friendly Poster Making Competetion was also held in which the students of our college participated with enthusiasm. Ms. Theertha C.S of I BSc Chemistry Won first prize and Ms. Clenita Saji of I BA English and Ms. Shilpa Jayaraj of III DC Chemistry has won 2 nd and 3 rd prizes respectively. This was followed by the participants being offered Tea & refreshments, later certificate and cash prize were distributed to the winners. On the second day (19 th September), two Invited Talk were organized by Dr. Vijay Kumar P, Project Scientist, Department of Atmospheric Science, CUSAT & by Dr. Renjith S, Scientist B, SCTIMST, Trivandrum. The first talk was on the topic Warming Earth, Changing Climate and highlighted the importance of conservation measures for protecting the environment with special reference to ozone. This was followed by a thematic film – Home which highlighted the importance of earth. This was followed by lunch. The second talk of the day introduced the ozone chemistry to students and emphasized the role chemist can play in mitigating and solving problems of environment. After the talk, a valedictory function was conducted to distribute the prizes for the winners of various competition. Certificate and cash prize were distributed to the winners. The Quiz master and invited speakers were honored by presenting them a memento. A Mime on Ozone depletion, its consequence and remedies was played by BSc Chemistry students followed by a group song on the same theme. Dr. T. Geetha delivered vote of thanks and the two days ‘Ozone day celebrations’ concluded with national anthem.
The Post Graduate Department of commerce was conducted a national seminar on the topic “INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL REPORTING STANDARDS”. The session was inaugurated by Mr. T G Sugunan, CMA, Brahmos Aerospace, Trivandrum and he also provided a valuable talk on IFRS. The second session handled by Mr. Abhilash K S, Lead financial specialist E Power India Ltd, Uttarpredesh, on the application of IFRS in accounting practices. The afternoon session conducted for paper presentations on the topic IFRS. The session was chaired by Dr. Murali E, HOD Sri.C Achuthamenon govt college, Kuttanellur.
The quantum of E-waste, being generated in the state, has leap flogged many fold in the last decade and is assuming humongous proportions. In an effort to ensure that the E-Waste emanating out of the villages, are recycled and disposed off scientifically. We had made arrangements to collect E-Waste from all the departments of St.Mary’s College, Thrissur for scientifically recycling the same in association with Clean Kerala Company limited which is a leading recycling organization under the Local Self Government Department, Government of Kerala. Collection of e-waste from various villages and organisations of Thrissur district was conducted at Thrissur civil station on 07/06/2018 and it was inaugurated by Smt.P.Marykutty, Deputy Director of district Panchayath Thrissur. Our department conducted a class wise competition to collect e-waste from all the students and submitted those to the collectorate on 07/06/2018. The class with highest number of e-waste materials was awarded with a special prize. The main goal of the mission was to clean polluted Kerala and have a face of cleanliness. The venture was implemented successfully in the college and all the departments participated in the same to make it successful.
